Shreveport Green, in partnership with the City of Shreveport Mayor’s Office, Property Standards, Streets and Drainage, Community Development, the Shreveport Police Department, and Visit Shreveport-Bossier, is proud to announce The Block by Block Initiative—one of the largest and most ambitious citywide cleanup efforts in Shreveport’s history.
This eleven-week initiative is designed to tackle blight and beautify neighborhoods block by block, creating a cleaner, greener, and healthier Shreveport for all. The effort kicks off on Friday, June 21st, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and will continue through the summer with weekly cleanup events across targeted neighborhoods.
“This is more than a cleanup—it’s a movement,” said Lauren Jones, Executive Director of Shreveport Green. “With the support of our city partners and the power of community volunteers, we are taking bold action to transform our city from the ground up.”
Volunteers are urgently needed to make this vision a reality. Whether you're an individual, business, civic group, or student, now is the time to roll up your sleeves and get involved.
Together, we can make Shreveport a place we’re proud to call home—block by block.
BLOCK BY BLOCK
Clean Sweep Initiative
WHAT IS THE BLOCK BY BLOCK INITIATIVE?
Block by Block is the result of an intensive planning and leadership effort led by a team of city and community leaders selected by Mayor Arceneaux to participate in the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative—a global program that helps cities design more effective public policy. Shreveport was one of a limited number of U.S. cities chosen for the initiative.
A working group of 25 cross-sector leaders, with an executive team of seven, has been meeting weekly since January to develop a more coordinated and effective strategy to address blight. In April, the team spent a week at Harvard Business School, working with national experts and faculty to develop new approaches for housing restoration, code enforcement, and long-term neighborhood reinvestment.
The Block by Block initiative focuses on targeting resources in high-need areas—one block at a time—rather than spreading efforts too thin. Each neighborhood will have a tailored improvement plan, with a full lifecycle tracking system for violations, abatements, legal actions, demolitions, and redevelopment status. Residents will play an essential role in helping to identify priorities, report issues, and support neighborhood transformation.
The following neighborhood sweeps are scheduled:
June 21 – Ingleside
June 28 – Highland
July 12 – Queensborough
July 26 – MLK/Cooper Road
August 2 – Cedar Grove
August 9 – Allendale
August 16 – Pines Road
August 23 – Stoner Hill
September 6 – Southern Hills
September 13 – Mooretown
September 20 – Broadmoor
