HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL:

Shreveport Green hosts eight appointment-only household hazardous waste (HHW) collection events each year, providing residents of Shreveport, Bossier City, and Caddo and Bossier Parishes with a safe, convenient way to properly dispose of these materials. This vital service is made possible through the support of the City of Shreveport, Republic Services, Bossier City, Caddo Parish, and Bossier Parish.

WHY DO I NEED A RESERVATION?

A reservation is required to facilitate an orderly and safe event. With reservations, there is generally no waiting for the residence and less stress on the volunteers. A reminder email will be sent to all reservations on Friday, before the collection if an email address is supplied.

WHAT IF I MISS MY APPOINTMENT?

If you have reserved an appointment and are running late, you may arrive no later than 10:40 am to drop off your materials. You are free to schedule another appointment at our next available date.

Do not arrive at Shreveport Green’s office to dump your waste.

Our facilities are not equipped to receive, store, or process hazardous materials. For the protection of our staff, visitors, and neighbors, dumping or abandoning hazardous waste on Shreveport Green property is strictly prohibited.

Enforcement and legal consequences:

Illegal dumping of hazardous materials is a serious offense. Such conduct may violate federal, state, and local environmental and public-safety laws and can result in civil penalties, monetary fines, and criminal charges. Shreveport Green will take action to remove unlawful deposits, document incidents, and cooperate fully with law enforcement and environmental regulatory agencies to pursue enforcement where appropriate.

Leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients are considered to be "household hazardous waste" or "HHW." Products, such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, and pesticides that contain potentially hazardous ingredients require special care when you dispose of them.

Improper disposal of household hazardous wastes can include pouring them down the drain, on the ground, into storm drains, or in some cases, putting them out with the trash. The dangers of such disposal methods might not be immediately obvious, but improper disposal of these wastes can pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health. Motor oil can be recycled at various "oil change" facilities around the community and at the HHW collections eight times a year. At these collections, all citizens of Shreveport and Bossier City and Caddo and Bossier Parishes can properly dispose of hazardous materials.
