Shreveport Green holds one major tree planting commemorating Arbor Day (held the 3rd week in January for Louisiana) each year. Through generous donation from assorted tree agencies, we select an area in the community with a need for green space and organize volunteers for a large-scale planting, usually including seedlings, saplings, and mature trees. Arbor Day presentations with "Annie Oakleaf" are also available for your school or youth group.
This year's project included a "tree care" clinic at Arthur Circle Elementary. Atkins Tree Service trimmed several of the stately old oak trees that had been damaged over the past few years, and the neighborhood association raised funds to replace seven trees that were lost to drought conditions and ice storms! We also continued with our Annual Linear Tree Planting Program by planting and mulching 200 trees that day!
The National Arbor Day Foundation provides materials appropriate for school Arbor Day programs. Shreveport Green and the National Arbor Day Foundation join resources annually to present an average of 8 school programs during Arbor week
